Edgewood shakes off early slump for Senior Night win

There is something about Edgewood-Conneaut basketball that takes me back to the mid 90’s – and many more fans – further. It’s a reunion, a rivalry, guaranteed to feature a lot of physical play. Ultimately, it ends with the team that finishes around the basket and has the best ball movement. A tug of war. Tonight, that was the Edgewood Warriors who after a three quarter struggle would snap into a rhythm and a scoring outburst they are more accustomed to.

Leading just 35-32 after three quarters, the Warriors erupted for 30 points in the final frame. Junior Jacob Ernst electrified the crowd (and his teammates) by throwing down three dunks at the end to give him four on the night, all part of a 16-point performance. That’s also when senior Zack Vencill settled in burying two three-pointers en route to a team-high 20 points. Junior Anthony Vincenzo-Hunt may have been the greatest wild-card, scoring fifteen of his 17 points in the second half.

Spartans junior Chance Loomis led all scorers with 25 points, including 14 of his team’s 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Edgewood advances to play host to West Branch in the first round of the post season, on Tuesday.
