Week 2 Roundup: Firelands, Amherst, Brookside & Keystone get statement wins

HENRIETTA TWP. – Quarterback Kyle Ransom had seven carries for 131 yards to lead the Firelands Falcons to a 26-3 win over Black River in Lorain County League play Friday.

Firelands QB Kyle Ransom sprints down the sideline past a diving Treyce Wood of Black River. The Falcons defeated the Pirates, 26-3.

Ransom also completed 5-of-9 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown as the Falcons improved to 2-0 on the season (2-0 in league play).

Carter Janicek added 100 yards on the ground for Firelands and scored a touchdown in the second quarter, while Weston Strader added two rushing touchdowns.

Joe McKean led Black River (0-2, 0-2) with 66 rushing yards in the loss.  

Oak Harbor 30, Vermilion 0

VERMILION – The Sailors (0-2, 0-2) were held scoreless against Sandusky Bay Conference foe Rockets.

Amherst 43, Midview 21

AMHERST – Alden Steele had a 99-yard kickoff return for the touchdown and Tyler Brezina passed for 246 yards to lead the Comets (2-0, 2-0) in Southwestern Conference play.

Brezina threw three touchdowns to Casey Hamrick, Ty Weatherspoon and Giles Little in the win for Amherst.

Ethan Surdock went 19-of-35 passing with 172 yards and two touchdowns for Midview (0-2, 0-2).

Strongsville 21, Elyria 12

ELYRIA – Jaheim Atkinson had 30 carries for 144 yards and two touchdowns as the Pioneers (1-1, 0-1) fell in Greater Cleveland Conference play to the Mustangs (1-0, 1-0).   

Strongsville’s Michael Novak returned a 21-yard interception for a touchdown in the first quarter that was the difference-maker in the game.

Brookside 28, Wellington 26

SHEFFIELD – Matthew O’Donnell kicked the game-winning 38-yard field goal with two seconds left to lead the Cardinals (1-1, 1-0) on Senior Night.

Kenny Groboslek had a game-high 139 yards rushing for Brookside and scored two touchdowns.

Jayden Skinner passed for 257 yards for Wellington (1-1, 1-1) in its LCL loss.

Keystone 53, Columbia 28

COLUMBIA STATION – Gideon Lampron rushed for 221 yards as the Wildcats (2-0, 2-0) ran past the Raiders in LCL play.

Keystone quarterback Konner Rodick threw for 298 yards and four touchdowns as the team improve to 2-0 and 2-0 in league play.

Carter Kalamasz led the Raiders (0-2, 0-2) with 409 yards passing, three touchdowns and threw two interceptions.
