Vogan slam, 16 strikeouts lead Sharon past Jefferson, 9-1

JEFFERSON – It did not take long for the tide to turn, as the Sharon Tigers (12-1) took an early 1-0 Jefferson lead and turned it into a 6-1 lead of their own by the second inning on Tuesday.

The visitors from nearby Pennsylvania came in with 11 wins and sophomore Madelyn Vogan quickly showed them why – first at the plate and then on the mound. With one out in the top of the second, Vogan followed a Mary Claire Brown RBI double and an Alauna Wilson walk to load the bases, with a grand slam homerun to right field. Her first of two homers in the game. Sharon was out to a quick 6-1 lead.

On the mound, Vogan settled to stymie Jefferson the final six innings. She finished with only three hits allowed, one earned run a walk and 16 strikeouts. At the plate, she was 2-4 (both homeruns) with 6 RBI and two runs scored from the leadoff position. Wilson was instrumental as well, going 2-2 with a walk and three runs scored.
