Firelands stuffs Black River for 2-0 start to season

Falcons defense has only allowed three points

HENRIETTA TOWNSHIP – The Firelands Falcons (2-0) are locking down opponents at a frantic pace, most recently handing Black River a lopsided 26-3 loss on Friday, as the Pirates begin the season 0-2. In fact, freshman kicker Eric Groesser’s field goal in the third quarter are the first points allowed by the Falcons thru two weeks of play.

Ball control is the name of the game as Firelands offense relies heavily on its ground game. Junior QB Kyle Ransom sprinted for 131 yards while junior tailback Carter Janicek also reached the century mark. Sophomore Weston Strader scampered from 5 and 3 yards out for the teams first two touchdowns of the evening.

Falcons senior receiver Alex Angle added a TD reception in the 4th quarter on a 10-yard pass from Ransom as insurance. Ransom finished with 122 yards in the air.

Thoughts go out to Black River RB/Linebacker Joseph McKean who was injured with five minutes remaining in the game. He laid face down, motionless following an interception by the Pirates. No word yet on the extent of his injury. He had 66 yards rushing before being carted off the field.
